One of the biggest benefits of our Essex outdoor fitness classes is undoubtedly the uplifting affect it can have on mood and mental state. Whether you suffer from anxiety, depression, seasonal affective disorder (SAD) or just are having a bit of a rough day, mentally speaking, spending more time outdoors increases the brain’s production of serotonin, the body’s mood-enhancing hormone. How many times over the past year have you actually ended up speaking to people, in person? Whilst headline-grabbing reports saying we’ll have “forgotten how to socialise” might be a bit much, we shouldn’t underestimate just how much we’ve missed that social interaction. Zoom parties are one thing, picking up on social cues face-to-face is quite another. Seeing different people and getting regular interactions with them is a crucial part of human nature – we’re highly sociable creatures. The thing with training indoors or in a gym setting – even if it’s part of a group – is that it can feel quite pressurised and serious. By taking part in outdoor fitness classes, it just has more of a feeling of enjoyment to it – maybe it’s a throwback to our time running around outdoors, who knows? But for whatever reason, training outdoors feels as much like play as it does anything else. Instead of staring at the clock, willing the end of your session to come around, you’ll find yourself wondering where the time went and maybe even wishing the session had lasted longer – okay, maybe not quite.
